Norwich City Community Sports Foundation are launching a new project to support people with dementia, named in honour of former club captain Duncan Forbes.
‘Duncan’s Club’ brings together people with dementia on a weekly basis to chat, reminisce, and stay active, and the Foundation is appealing for donations to ensure they can provide this regular support for local people with dementia, for free.
Over 12,000 people in Norfolk are living with dementia, including one in 15 people over the age of 65. Most support groups are only able to meet every two to three weeks.
By donating as little as £3 a month, supporters will be directly helping the Foundation to deliver Duncan’s Club and create a safe space every week for people with dementia and those who care for them.
The appeal has been backed by Duncan’s widow Janette and former player Chris Sutton, whose father Mike passed away after having dementia in later life.

Why ‘Duncan’s Club’?
Loved by supporters and teammates, Duncan Forbes was known for tough tackling, leadership, and his incredible warmth. This made Duncan one of the most iconic players in our club’s history.
Sadly, his later years were affected by dementia, and he passed away in 2019.
The Foundation’s new club will provide support for people who are going through the same challenges with dementia that Duncan experienced in later life and, like the man himself, the club will be a beacon of support and strength for those that attend.
Duncan’s Club – the sessions
Duncan’s Club is a 90-minute session that will take place every Thursday morning at the Foundation’s community hub, The Nest, in Horsford.
Sessions are split into three elements: Activate - to help participants stay physically active, Reminisce - using Norwich City as a stimulus to memory, and Talk - a social session in The Nest's café.
Sessions are free – to find out more and sign up click here.
How to support – give monthly
Duncan’s Club will be funded by monthly donations to the Foundation via its City Giving programme.
By giving as little as £3 a month, City Giving members can secure the future of Duncan’s Club and directly help to provide free support for local people with dementia and those who care for them.
