*January 16, 1937*
**Norwich City 3
Liverpool 0** First Division Liverpool arrived at second tier Norwich City, and were given an early shock when Norwich went ahead in the first minute. Just four Norwich touches occurred between kick-off and Jack Vinall opening the scoring, a tally he would double just five minutes later. Norwich got a third in the 51st minute when Liverpool ‘keeper Alf Hobson sent a long clearance down field. Jack Scott sent it back with interest and it was misjudged by Hobson who could only watch it squirm through his legs. The fixture was refereed by Jimmy Jewell who officiated the FA Cup final the following season, and became Norwich manager in 1939. *January 6, 1951* **Norwich City 3
Liverpool 1** The previous season’s FA Cup finalists Liverpool visited, this time against a Division Three Norwich side. However, the Canaries dominated the first half and would have been ahead but for Russell Crossley in goal. The breakthrough did come in the second half when Tom Docherty fired low and hard to the net. Noel Kinsley got the second with 15 minutes remaining before a wonderful Docherty strike made it three. Jack Balmer got a consolation but Norwich secured another famous win over Liverpool. *January 10, 1959* **Norwich City 3
Manchester United 0** Just a year on from the tragic Munich air disaster, a rebuilding Manchester United arrived at Carrow Road. With eight wins on the trot, few were looking past a win for Matt Busby’s team. However, Terry Bly opened the scoring for the Canaries and they never looked back. Errol Crossan doubled the lead after an hour before Bly got his second to send Norwich on their way to the next round of what would be a famous cup run. *January 28, 1985* **Norwich City 1
Birmingham City 0** Club history was made in 1985 when it took four attempts across 23 days to separate Norwich and Birmingham City in the third round. After finishing 0-0, 1-1 and 1-1, a low-scoring affair was anticipated once again. And, so it was. A 10th-minute goal from Steve Bruce would be the fatal blow. But despite the hard work in passing the third round, Norwich would go out at the hands of West Ham. *January 8, 1989* **Port Vale 1
Norwich City 3** A first meeting between Norwich and Port Vale in 29 years saw two teams flying high in their respective divisions lock horns in the cup. Port Vale were hoping to repeat their heroics of the previous season when they had beaten Spurs. Vale took a half-time lead through an Alan Webb goal. In the second half, Norwich’s pedigree shone through as Andy Townsend scored twice while Robert Fleck added a third to avoid any potential upset.
