Ozan Kabak became Norwich City’s latest summer recruit on Bank Holiday Monday, joining the club on a season-long loan deal from FC Schalke 04.
At the age of just 21, Kabak already boasts an impressive resume featuring stints at some of Europe’s top clubs.
Born in the Turkish capital of Ankara, his footballing career began with Galatasaray, Turkey’s most successful club.
He progressed through their youth ranks before signing his first professional contract in July 2017. His debut came in May 2018 in a 2-0 Süper Lig win over Yeni Malatyaspor.
In October 2018, he played in his first Champions League match, a 0-0 draw against Schalke.
Later that season, Kabak moved to VfB Stuttgart on a four-and-a-half-year deal. He certainly impressed in his opening few months in the Bundesliga, eventually being named the league’s Rookie of the Season. Previous winners of the award included Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.
His form was noticed by some of Germany’s top clubs, and he moved to Schalke in June 2019 on a five-year contract.
Schalke finished 12th in his first season at the club, and Kabak gained plenty of experience in his 28 appearances across league and cup.
Kabak played 14 times in the Bundesliga last year, before he joined an injury-depleted Liverpool in February 2021.
With injuries to a number of their centre-backs, Kabak was able to play 13 times for the Premier League side, before injury ruled him out of their final five matches.
On the international stage, Kabak has represented Turkey throughout the age groups, but was so highly-rated he skipped Under-21 level to make his senior international debut in 2019.
He was part of the Turkey squad for the recent EURO 2020 tournament but didn’t play a single minute as they exited at the group stage.
