Norwich City completed the signing of 19-year-old Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Greek Super League side PAOK on Thursday.
Tzolis joined PAOK’s youth setup in 2010 after four years with his local academy at Doxa Pentalofos.
He began making a name for himself at the age of 13, scoring 11 goals in five games at the Lennart-Johansson Cup to win the golden boot and the player of the tournament award.
The 2016/17 and 2017/18 season were spent at SG Rosenhohe Offenbach and SV Alemannia Konigstadten respectively, before Tzolis returned to PAOK U18s for 2018/19, where he scored 29 goals in 25 games.
That remarkable goal to game ratio earned him a callup to Greece’s Under-17s team, who he went on to score six goals for in nine matches.
A senior debut for PAOK came in 2019, while Tzolis scored 19 goals in 23 games for the club’s Under-19s side to become the league’s youngest goalscorer that season. He also made three appearances for the Greece U19s team.
Last season, Tzolis announced himself on the big stage, scoring 16 goals for PAOK’s senior team to become it’s top scorer in 2020/21.
Two of those goals came against Besiktas in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and two came against PSV Eindhoven in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.
PAOK finished second in the Super League and won the Greek Cup to cap off a successful campaign.
Tzolis was named the club’s MVP of the Season for 2020/21. He ended his time at PAOK with a total of 17 goals and ten assists in 57 senior appearances in all competitions.
He also made his debut for the senior Greek national team last season to become its seventh youngest player in history. Tzolis scored his first international goal against Cyprus in November 2020 and has now made eight appearances for the country.
