Norwich City have announced their third signing of the summer transfer window, with Shane Duffy joining the club upon the expiry of his contract at Fulham.

Born in Derry, Duffy played both Gaelic football and association football in his youth. After playing at local side Foyle Harps, he joined Everton as a first-year scholar in November 2008.

He made his first-team debut for the Toffees in the UEFA Europa League in December 2009, featuring away to AEK Athens. He made his home debut for the club in the same competition, playing against BATE Borisov.

In May 2010, the defender underwent emergency surgery after a training ground accident. Duffy lacerated his liver after colliding with a goalkeeper, and would return to Everton's reserve team against Sligo Rovers in August of the same year.

After a couple of loan spells at Burnley and Scunthorpe United, the 31-year-old made his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur, and made his first league start against Aston Villa shortly after.

Duffy spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Championship side Yeovil Town, before departing Everton on a permanent basis to sign for Blackburn Rovers.

He spent just under two years at Ewood Park, where he made 63 appearances in the Championship. His performances for Rovers earned the interest of Brighton & Hove Albion, who signed him for a then record fee of £4 million.

The defender's first season with the Seagulls was a successful one, as they finished as runners-up in the Championship to earn promotion to the Premier League. He established himself a regular for Brighton in the top flight.

When appearances became harder to come by for Brighton in the 2019/20 season, Duffy went on loan to Scottish club Celtic the following year. He made 27 appearances in all competitions for the club, and was part of the side that won the Scottish Cup.

He returned to Brighton for the 2021/22 season, making 18 Premier League appearances. For the 2022/23 season, he joined Fulham on loan, before the deal was made permanent in February 2023.

His short-term contract at Craven Cottage came to an end this summer, and Duffy becomes David Wagner's third signing of the summer.

Internationally, Duffy has 55 caps for the Republic of Ireland, playing alongside both Andrew Omobamidele and Adam Idah.
