The former Aston Villa stopper will immediately join up with the Canaries to provide competition to Tim Krul and Daniel Barden for the number one shirt.

We’ve taken a closer look at Nyland’s career from winning trophies in his native Norway before making the step abroad to Germany and then England.

Born in Volda, Norway, Nyland was a keen handball player and alpine skier when he was a child. However, he began to opt for football as he grew older and he played for the academies at Mork IL and Volda TI before joining Hødd in 2007 at the age of 17.

He had to be patient for his opportunity as a first-choice number one which came three years after making the move to Hodd. He enjoyed two years of regular playing time there before joining one of Norway’s most successful clubs, Molde.

Nyland spent three years at Molde, winning the domestic league and cup double in 2014 on his way to being named the Tippeligaen goalkeeper of the year. He won the same award in 2015, too.

Nyland then decided to fly the nest and try and make a name for himself overseas. He joined German club Ingolstadt following their promotion to the Bundesliga and made 18 appearances in two top-flight seasons before the Bavarian club were relegated to the second-tier.

In 2017-18, Nyland impressed with Ingolstadt as their number one and in the following summer, he signed for Aston Villa on a three-year contract.

Nyland featured promimently during the 2018-19 season for Villa, a season where they achieved promotion via the play-offs but he found minutes hard to come by in the Premier League and both parties agreed to end his contract in October 2020.

Away from club football, Nyland has made 28 appearances for Norway after making his way through the age-groups. He was named in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship Team of the Tournament in 2013 as Norway made it to the semi-finals.
