Norwich City have announced the appointment of Philippe Clement as the club’s new head coach on a deal until the summer of 2029.
The 51-year-old will be joined at the club by Stephan Van Der Heyden who he has previously worked with Club Brugge and Glasgow Rangers.
Clement was born in Antwerp and forged a professional career as a centre-back or defensive midfielder.
Aside from 16 appearances for then-Premier League side Coventry in 1998/99, he spent all of his playing career in Belgium.
He won the Belgian league twice as well as four Belgian Cups and four Belgian Super Cups.
He spent 10 years with Club Brugge between 1999 and 2009, later returning to the club in a coaching role after his retirement from playing.
His first head coaching role came with Waasland-Beveren but just five months later Genk came seeking his services.
He guided Genk to a league title in 2019, the club’s first league title in eight years.
That success would lead Club Brugge to bring Clement back to the club where he had played over 300 times as a player and it was definitely a triumphant return.
Clement and Club Brugge would win the next two league titles, making it three-in-a-row for the head coach.
That record prompted French giants AS Monaco to approach Clement in January 2022 about their head coaching vacancy.
In the remainder of that first season, he lifted them from sixth to third place but suffered elimination in the last season of the Europa League.
The following year, Monaco finished sixth and Clement departed.
In October 2023, he was appointed head coach of Glasgow Rangers, replacing Michael Beale.
In December, Rangers won the Scottish League Cup, beating Aberdeen in the final in the midst of a 16-game unbeaten run.
He left the Scottish club in February 2025 and the experienced head coach now joins the Canaries for his first role in English football.
