Norwich City are delighted to welcome Finnbar's Force to Carrow Road as our matchday charity for the club's Sky Bet Championship fixture against Blackburn Rovers.
Finnbar’s Force is a Norfolk-based charity supporting families affected by childhood cancer. Their support also extends through to Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
The charity was founded by Tristan Cork in memory of his five-year-old son Finnbar, who sadly lost his life to a brain tumour in 2016.
They provide free, holistic support to families from the point of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond, including practical and financial grants, therapeutic support and emotional care.
On being selected as the club's matchday charity, Tristan said: "This means a huge amount to me and to everyone at Finnbar’s Force.
"The club sits right at the heart of our community and on a personal level it’s especially meaningful as Finnbar was a huge Norwich City supporter, who loved coming along to games with me.
"We used to sit together with other family members in the River End.
"This recognition helps us raise vital awareness of childhood cancer and the support families need beyond the hospital setting and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at the club and the Community Sports Foundation for helping shine a light on our work and the families we support.”
At the heart of Finnbar’s Force is The Den; a family support centre based in Eaton in Norwich.
The Den offers drop-in sessions, counselling, play therapy, massage and group support in a calm and welcoming space just minutes from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
This year the charity is fundraising for a specialist family support worker to support the families wherever and whenever they need.
Alongside direct family support, Finnbar’s Force also works to raise awareness of childhood cancer symptoms and advocates for increased research into childhood brain tumours.
