Norwich City Under-23s midfielder Flynn Clarke thrived in the number ten role during Monday night's 3-1 win at home to Reading U23s in the Premier League Cup.
The score was level at half time thanks to goals from Jonathan Rowe and Jeremiah Okine-Peters, before Clarke's second half brace kept City's PL Cup hopes alive.
"Personally, I feel like in the first half we were doing alright, but getting a bit under the cosh," he told canaries.co.uk. "As soon as we went in at half time, Alan [Neilson] spoke to us about needing to be more aggressive as a team and make more forward runs.
"We came out in the second half and in the first 15 minutes we made so many runs that we ended up scoring."
City's second goal of the afternoon came in the 68th minute, Jaden Warner accurately picking out Tony Springett on the left wing, who delicately pulled the ball back for Clarke to side-foot into the bottom left corner.
"Credit to him," Clarke said. "I was screaming for the ball, so if he didn't pass to me, we would've been having words after the game!
"He did well to make the run down the line. It was a great pass initially from Jaden that broke three or four lines.
"The weight of the pass, Tony knew that I wanted to shoot first time, so he made sure it wasn't bobbly, which encouraged me to shoot.
"We went 2-1 up and it started becoming a little bit of a basketball game for three or four minutes. As soon as we won the ball back, Steve [Weaver] said we needed to make the pitch big, control the ball and pass around the back to make them move.
"Eventually, one of them will come out and we'll be able to break the line, and for my second goal we did that, played through them and I scored.
"We were keeping the ball, Joe Duffy got it in the midfield and drove forward. I peeled off the defence, took my first touch forward and hit it near post."
In recent games, Clarke has been playing further forward in midfield, occupying the spot just behind the strikers, and it's one he's making the most of.
"I look at myself more as a number ten attacking player, so that's the position I've been playing in during the last couple of games and I've been loving it," he said.
"The amount of joy I've been getting in behind the defence or in the little pockets in front of them, it's definitely my sort of game."
Victory against Reading has set up a winner takes all tie against Charlton Athletic on February 14, three points required to progress in the PL Cup.
"It means the most to all of us, not just me, even the staff as well as the players," Clarke siad. "We must win this game and we're all looking forward to it, especially after tonight's win, so we just need to make sure we go and get three points."
