The generosity of Norwich City fans will help to provide 1,500 meals for vulnerable families after the success of last weekend's food drive, championed by the club's primary partner Anglian Home Improvements.
Ahead of the club's fixture against Burnley, supporters were asked to donate tinned or long-life goods to support the Norfolk Community Foundation's Nourishing Norfolk campaign.
Over 610kg worth of donations were received and an additional £2,260 was donated to the cause, which aims to combat food insecurity in the local community.
Volunteers from Anglian Home Improvements were on hand to collect donations from supporters to be distributed to the 26 Nourishing Norfolk hubs.
Delia Smith, Norwich City's honorary life president said: “The issue of food poverty is of paramount importance. This is a wonderful initiative, which will help raise awareness on the issue, as I don’t think people really understand how bad it is.
“I was invited to a breakfast with the Bishop and 30 people who are working with food poverty in Norfolk and I was blown away by how bad it is, and Norfolk is one of the worst places for food poverty. It’s something we’re all keen as a football club to help support in any way we can.”
Rachel Munby, chief marketing officer at Anglian Home Improvements said: “Supporting and engaging with communities in the local area is of great importance to Anglian and we believe there is no better time to do this than at Christmas. We have been blown away by the support from Norwich City fans and the wider community, who have helped to support some of the most vulnerable families in the area.
“Working closely with the Nourishing Norfolk programme, we’ve been able to hear firsthand how these donations will make a difference to those less fortunate. As part of the food drive, both Anglian Home Improvements and Norwich City have donated £1,000 each to the charity to help support with its ongoing efforts in the region.
