Giannoulis: It was the hardest test so far

Dimitris Giannoulis says the team are working hard in pre-season and are ready for the Championship, following a 1-1 draw against AZ Alkmaar.

The Greece international played his longest minutes of the pre-season campaign so far, having played a part in four out of five matches.

"It was a good test for us, AZ are a really good team. I had my first 80 minutes and it was alright. We are working so hard and we are not really fresh today, but it's pre-season, so it's okay."

Tonight's opposition came up against West Ham in the Europa Conference League back in May, narrowly missing out on the final to the Hammers.

"It was the hardest test we've had so far, but we did have some quite good moments in the game. It's never easy to play against a team like them, so I think we are quite happy with our performance.

As soon as the match was wrapped up at the VV Dirkshorn ground, a gym session took place on the pitch with all players involved.

"This camp has been really tough, that's why we're not so fresh, but we are working hard and we will be ready for the Championship. We are quite confident that we will be ready for the games that really matter, so we will keep working hard and we will see the results later."

City's next pre-season camp will take place in Austria with a match against Ligue 1 side Toulouse on Tuesday, July 25.
