Grant Hanley says that small mistakes costs Norwich City in the home defeat to Liverpool, but there were still positives to take from the match.
The Canaries lost 3-0, with Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scoring for the visitors. However, for large spells it was an even match and it was just a few mistakes that were ruthlessly punished by Jürgen Klopp’s team.
“I thought we started the game well,” said Grant. “We definitely showed loads of courage and loads of bravery and loads of intent. We put our personality on the pitch and we played our game, but we are playing at the top level and if you make mistakes then you will get punished more often than not.
“So, it was pleasing, but there is still lots of room for improvement to be competitive at this level and we will need to improve.”
Following the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, it was the first time since February 28, 2020, that Norwich City had a full house inside Carrow Road. Grant, who played for Scotland in front of crowds in the summer, says it was great to welcome the fans back inside the stadium.
“It was nice to get the fans back and I think, especially for them as well, it has been a long time coming,” he said. “Hopefully the enjoyed it and hopefully we can keep improving and get the results that they are looking for.
“We have got to have belief and we have got that in the dressing room. The new lads that have come in have shown their quality and you could see today that they add something to our group. So, there is definitely some positives to take but we have to look to improve. It is always the same in football, you have to learn the lessons quickly and keep moving forward. That is what we will do this week because we have got a big test coming up.”
