Norwich City Under-18s coach Greg Crane gave canaries.co.uk his view on Saturday afternoon's 4-1 loss at home to Reading Under-18s.
"I was disappointed with the first half if I'm being brutal," he said. "We didn't have the intensity that we've been showing in the last couple of games. Our quality with the ball let us down.
"At half-time, we spoke about having more intensity, not necessarily any tactics. Just play with a bit of passion, enthusiasm and drive and then we got in the game a bit and started creating chances.
"We made more of a game of it, but we'll be disappointed when we look back at all the goals."
Dubem Eze came on at half-time and scored City's only goal, while second-half substitutes Alex Roberts and Michael Reindorf also looked lively.
"I was really happy," Crane said on the changes. "Dubem came on at half-time and I think all three subs made a positive impact. Dubem scored, Michael looked to get loads of crosses in and Alex has got to learn when chances pop up to take them.
"It's good for him to come on and get another chance, but he's got to start taking those opportunities because hopefully that can then get him a starting place."
City looked good on the counter-attack at times during the first-half, but conceded one of their goals during such a movement. Moving the ball quicker is a target.
"It's something we try to work on a lot, being devastated in those moments," Crane said. "I was fortunate enough to work with the 23s strikers from last year and that's probably the difference at the moment.
"We're creating just as many chances as them but not producing the goal moments. The lads know that and it's a development process. It doesn't just happen overnight, it takes practice to get that moment in the game.
"They'll keep going and hopefully they keep trying to stay with the process and those goals will start coming for a few of them."
