Following our last league defeat against London Seaward, we caught up with a positive Shaun Howes to discuss moving forward and looking ahead to today’s game.
A disappointing result against Seaward last week, but a spirited performance. How would you assess Sunday’s loss?
"Frustrating, we had some really good spells of play and controlled the ball for the majority of the game but gave away three goals through a lack of concentration. Seaward were very resilient and made the most of the chances they had. If we make better decisions and get a bit of luck in the attacking third, then the result could have been very different."
It’s our heaviest league defeat of the season so far, which says a lot for this challenging league. What did you say to the girls afterwards?
"I didn’t really have to say much, the girls were really disappointed with the result. The performance was actually good and the stats show how much we controlled the game, but we all know this is a really tough division and small lapses of concentration will get punished."
We now look forward to another league match back at home against a side we have beaten this season. How do you feel ahead of the game?
"I am always excited for games, especially at home because the girls love playing at The Nest in front of big crowds. It will be another tough game as QPR are a good team, but I am sure one that the girls are looking forward to and will be really desperate to continue with the good performances, which will hopefully result in positive result."
We’ve now got four home games in a row. How do we use that to our advantage and build some momentum?
"Although we are now at home for the next four games, they are all tough games. We will prepare thoroughly like we always do to give us the best chance of putting in a good performance and gaining some positive results. Having the crowd behind us always gives the girls a big lift and we hope to continue our good form and put on an exciting game for the supporters."
