Adam Idah made a goalscoring return to the starting XI against Reading, however it would not be enough for all three points.
Andy Carroll scored from the spot in the final 10 minutes, rescuing a point for the Royals.
For Idah, being back on the scoresheet was a positive but the result will always be the priority.
"I thought the performances was better," said the Republic of Ireland international.
"I think we controlled the game quite well but obviously it's disappointing that we didn't get the win. I think if we perform like that against other teams, carry on the drive and we'll get the three points."
The 21-year-old has had a watching brief for much of this campaign following an injury initially picked up in February.
His mind is now focused purely on the future and adding to the team for the second half of the campaign.
"It has been difficult for me but I think that's part of football. You do get injuries here and there.
"This is my first long-term injury but I think I have to just put it to the back of my head now and focus on playing and, like I did tonight, get the goal and help the team."
