England’s Under-21s climbed to second in Group G of the Under-21 Championship qualifiers with a 3-1 win against Czech Republic on Thursday night.
Max Aarons played the full 90 minutes for the Young Lions, who are now two points behind Czech Republic and have a game in hand.
There was World Cup qualifying victory for Danel Sinani as Luxembourg beat Azerbaijan 3-1 away from home. Sinani played 72 minutes, but Luxembourg had already been eliminated from Group A.
Greece’s exit from the World Cup qualifiers was confirmed with a 1-0 loss at home to Spain in Group B. Dimitris Giannoulis played 67 minutes and Christos Tzolis came on at half-time in Athens.
Returning to Group A, Republic of Ireland held Portugal to a 0-0 draw at the Aviva Stadium, Adam Idah coming on the 61st minute of that game.
Andrew Omobamidele wasn’t included in the matchday squad due to an injury, and Ireland had already been eliminated from the World Cup qualifiers.
