International round-up: Omobamidele makes Ireland debut against Portugal

Andrew Omobamidele came on in the 36th minute to make his debut for the Republic of Ireland national team in a 2-1 defeat in Portugal on Wednesday.

The result left Ireland second from bottom in Group A of the World Cup qualifiers, Cristiano Ronaldo scoring in the 89th and 96th minutes to turn the game around.

Norwich City forward Adam Idah played 92 minutes of the game.

In Group F, City trio Grant Hanley, Kenny McLean and Billy Gilmour 94, 85 and 91 minutes respectively of a 2-0 loss in Denmark.

The result left Scotland fourth with five points from four games.

In Group G, Mathias Normann played the opening 68 minutes of Norway’s 1-1 draw at home to Netherlands, Tim Krul an unused substitute for the away side.

The two nations are now level on seven points as they look to close the gap on Turkey.

Dimitris Giannoulis was involved in Greece’s friendly game against Switzerland, coming on for the second half of their 2-1 defeat.

Finland had a goalless draw at home to Wales earlier in the day, with Teemu Pukki an unused substitute.
