Marcelino Núñez, Grant Hanley, Danel Sinani, Dimitris Giannoulis and Tom Dickson-Peters were all on international friendly duty this week ahead of the winter break for the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Chilean international team played twice during the week, facing Poland in a 1-0 loss on Wednesday, November 17 and Slovakia on the morning of Sunday, November 20 in a 0-0 draw. Núñez was impactful during both fixtures, linking up with teammate Diego Valencia and having shots on goal to test the keepers. He played 90 minutes in both fixtures.
Club captain Hanley played 45 minutes on Wednesday, November 16 in Scotland's 2-1 loss to Turkey at the Diyarbakir Stadium in Turkey. He returned to Steve Clarke's starting line-up after missing Scotland's previous camp through injury. Ozan Kabak claimed Turkey's first, Cengiz Ünder had their second and John McGinn pulled one back for the Scots. Kenny McLean was absent with an injury.
Sticking with the Tartan Army, Dickson-Peters was a substitute in the Under-21 side that lost out 2-1 to Iceland at Fir Park in Motherwell on Thursday, November 17. The first goal came from Scotland's Max Johnstone inside 30 minutes, followed by an Ingason double for Iceland in the second half.
Luxembourg international Sinani was also in action during the week for his country, as he earned his 50th cap with the side on Wednesday in a 2-2 draw against Hungary. Luxembourg then hosted Bulgaria on Sunday, November 20 in a 0-0 draw.
After a road to recovery for Dimitris Giannoulis, he returned to international duty for Greece, playing 90 minutes on Thursday in a 2-2 draw against Malta and a 2-1 loss to Hungary on Sunday, November 20.
Josh Sargent landed in Qatar on Sunday, November 13 in preparation for the US national team's Fifa World Cup campaign. The US team kick-start their group stage on Monday, November 21 at 7pm against Wales.
