It was recently confirmed by Norwich City that Michael McGovern would depart the club at the end of the 2022/23 season.
After playing in Scottish football for over 15 years, he made the decision to join the Canaries in July 2016.
In his time at the club, he has also represented Northern Ireland at Senior level to add to his underage caps.
McGovern grew up in Enniskillen and started off his career at Celtic at the age of 17 but later went on to have loan spells at Stranraer and St Johnstone.
The stopper then left Celtic in 2008 and joined fellow Scottish Premier League side Dundee United but moved on after a single season.
He made his first appearance for the Canaries in a goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday, replacing John Ruddy at half-time.
From there, he went on to make 20 appearances in his first season. He would also feature for Norwich in the Premier League in later years deputising for Tim Krul.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet, that I’m leaving," McGovern told canaries.co.uk.
“The two promotions stand out for me because I played a part in them, especially the second one because I played a few games when Tim was injured and helped the team pick up some points, I thought I did quite well in the games that I played during that season.”
During his stay at the club, he has really made an impact on the people around him, no more so than his role in developing younger goalkeepers in the club.
“I don’t really think of me having that role. Ed (Wootten), the goalkeeper coach, was saying in January when I was training with the younger goalkeepers, I was coaching them a lot but nobody really pointed it out so I didn’t realise I was doing it a lot.
"I just tried to be myself and help others where I can and that’s just the way I go about things."
