The prospect of hosting Arsenal at Carrow Road on Sunday (3pm KO) has Jacob Sorensen excited for Boxing Day.
"It’s really important to play at home and build this atmosphere at Carrow Road, which the fans have done brilliantly so far,” he said. “I always enjoy playing at home and listening to On The Ball, City at the beginning. It’s brilliant.
“I’ve experienced how much it means to people in England with the Boxing Day football and games around the New Year, but it’s really different compared to Denmark, where we’re normally off for three weeks spending time with family and friends.
“You have to adapt and miss being home with your family during all these traditions. It’s hard to complain, you’re doing what you love, playing football in the Premier League, so I’m happy to be here.
“Against Arsenal, we have to be tidy. We’re preparing for the game and we know they’ve got quality all over the place and with their substitutes. We have to be on it from the beginning and not lose our intensity.
“In the start of the game, they try to get over you, so we have to stay in it no matter what happens in the first half.
“The games are coming so quickly after each other. It’s exciting to feel the Christmas vibes here in England.
“It’s not ideal with the pandemic and everything. You should be together with your family to spend Christmas time, but it is what it is and we can’t do anything about it. We’re just happy that we’re allowed to play still, so get the most out of it and I’m looking forward to the games.
“We’ve had quite a big break because the last game got postponed but the boys are happy and smiling. There aren’t that many Covid cases anymore, so we’re ready for Arsenal at home.”
Sorensen made his Premier League debut at Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the season, a proud moment for him and his family.
“It’s hard to explain because you’re just in it,” he said. “It’s easier for my family to explain when they’re sitting back in Denmark and seeing me running on the pitch. It was a proud moment. The game was more or less dead as we were behind 3-0, but it was a good experience to finally get some minutes.
“I didn’t even know what I expected from the Premier League. It’s hard to compare with the Championship because last year there were no fans in the stands, but the players and teams are top quality all around. It’s a pleasure playing here.
“There are a lot of top quality players who I’m so impressed by, especially Van Dijk and some of the 6s in the Premier League. You’re looking at them, but it has to fit in your own style and the team’s style of playing.”
Sorensen’s versatility could be a pivotal string to Dean Smith’s bow over the festive period.
“He’s very encouraging and we know we’ve got the quality in us,” Sorensen said. “It’s just to believe in it and show ourselves on the pitch. Hopefully, we’ll pick up some points in the Christmas period with a lot of games.
“It’s good to cover more positions to show I’m ready for wherever he puts me.
“The main goal is to get some points to stay in this league. Hopefully, we get a lot. For me, I hope I can play a lot, but it’s not me picking the team.”
