Joe Duffy: We are not consistent enough in defending our own box

Norwich City under-18 midfielder Joe Duffy reflects on his side's Premier League Cup defeat to Sunderland.

Under-18s midfielder Joe Duffy said he and his teammates need to show more consitsency following a disappointing 4-1 loss in the Premier League Cup away at Sunderland.

The Canaries put in a solid first half performance at the Academy of Light, with Duffy and Ken Aboh going close to opening the scoring.

However, the second half performance did match the first, which was a source of frustration for Duffy at the final whistle.

"I thought first half we battled, and we were competing with them and it was an even game," he said. "But in the second half we got out fought and not taking our chances in the first half costs us. We conceded a poor goal again and then once we were 2-0 it was difficult to make a real impact and get back in the game."

Asked why the second half performance was so different to the first, he added: "It has been a recurring theme this season that once we concede a couple our heads dropped.

"We are trying our best to stick together as a team throughout the whole game. We are slowly getting there, but it is about consistency at the moment and we are not consistent enough in defending our own box and taking our chances. That is why results are not going our way.”
