A brace from Joelinton and a Bruno Guimarães goal meant Norwich fell to a 3-0 defeat at Carrow Road against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Joelinton put the visitors ahead in the 35th minute after Jacob Murphy’s cross found Allan Saint-Maximin who laid it on to the Brazilian who rifled it into the top corner past Tim Krul.
Joelinton then doubled both his and Newcastle’s lead just six minutes later after fellow Brazilian Bruno Guimarães’ through ball found Jacob Murphy whose shot was blocked by Sam Bryam. However the ball then fell to the striker-turned midfielder again who slotted into an empty net. Guimarães then pounced on a loose ball by Krul, chipping it over the Dutch keeper to put the game beyond doubt early on in the second half. Dean Smith made one change from his side’s defeat at Old Trafford bringing in Christoph Zimmermann for Ben Gibson in defence and Brandon Williams came in on the bench at the expense of Lukas Rupp who felt a slight niggle behind his knee when training last week. The first 10 minutes saw two good opportunities for both the Canaries and Newcastle with the away side going close in the seventh minute after Guimarães’ over the top ball found Murphy who sent it wide of the Norwich City goal. Two minutes later, Kieran Dowell spurned an opportunity to put Norwich ahead after a beautiful ball from Mathias Normann but his chip lobbed both Martin Dúbravka and the Newcastle goal. The Canaries best chance of the match came in the 18th minute where Pierre Lees-Melou beat three Newcastle players finding Teemu Pukki out on the right who rounded Dúbravka while Newcastle players made their way onto the line before squaring it back to Dowell who blasted it over. Joelinton scored a six minute brace before half-time his first coming against the run of the play as he finished well into the top corner before he scored into an empty net after Bryam’s block.

After half-time Newcastle quickly made it three scoring in the 49th minute with Bruno Guimarães’ over Krul after a sloppy pass from the Dutchman.
The Canaries best chance of the second half came when substitute Jonathan Rowe slotted through to Teemu Pukki who put the ball just agonisingly wide. However, Newcastle controlled possession and the match for the majority of the second 45 as the Canaries, despite making a few changes from the bench never really threatened to get back into the match.
Norwich now sit eight points off of safety with just five games to play.
