Josh Sargent: It was just instinct!

Scoring a back-heeled flick onto the underside of the crossbar is not something that took too much thought for Josh Sargent, he told canaries.co.uk after Friday night’s 3-0 win away to Watford!

“Not much went through my head, it was just instinct to do that, so it was a good finish,” he said.

“The worst feeling after you score is when you’re celebrating and they’re looking at the goal on VAR.”

For his brace, Sargent’s second goal in the Premier League, the forward leapt to connect with Milot Rashica’s pinpoint delivery and plant the ball into the bottom left corner.

“I held my run very well and got a good jump on him so it was a good finish,” he said.

Then, Juraj Kucka scored an own goal in stoppage time, after Michael Keane had done the same against Norwich last weekend.

“I was laughing with Adam [Idah] after,” Sargent said. “Two own goals in two games! I don’t know why our luck is so good right now but hopefully it stays that way!

“It’s huge for us. Getting two wins in a row is massive for the guys and the confidence. Hopefully we can take that into the next games.

“To get the first goal and put the game away with the second and third showed our character that we kept wanting to push on and I’m proud of the boys tonight.

“It’s about time for us to be clinical tonight! Hopefully we can continue that in the next games.”

The Sargent family recently welcome a baby daughter to the world, so the start of 2022 has been a period that will live long in the memory for Josh.

“It’s been a crazy couple of weeks, but a good start to the year I’d say!

“Everybody is going home happy tonight - the team and the fans.”
