Josh Sargent: It’s great to get the first win

Josh Sargent gave Norwich City the lead with a powerful header in Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at home to Huddersfield Town.

“It feels great,” he told canaries.co.uk after the match. “In the last games we were able to keep the ball and create good chances but we weren’t able to provide that finishing touch.

“Obviously today we were, so I’m very excited and it was great to get the first one.

“The fans are amazing every time we’re here. Especially for a striker, it feels really good to get that first goal of the season.”

Huddersfield were reduced to ten men when Tom Lees pulled back Sargent, who was through on goal early in the second half, but Norwich didn’t quite capitalise on that advantage.

“With their guy being sent off, it became a bit too passive from us,” Sargent said. “We thought the game would just finish by itself, but we all know in the locker room that we need to push even harder in those instances to get the third and fourth goal.”

Going forward, Sargent is pleased with the team’s new recruits and says we’ll be ready for Millwall on Friday night.

“It’s a really good group of guys. We welcomed the new guys coming in and it was the same for myself. They’re doing better and better each day on the pitch, so they’re very good additions.

“There are a lot of games this season and the most important thing is recovery now, so we’re already getting in the ice baths to recover as fast as we can and get ready for the next match.”
