Ben Knapper spoke to the media this morning as new head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup was introduced to the press.

The sporting director outlined the process of appointing Hoff Thorup and how they view the future of the club.

"When I think about what we wanted this project to look like going forward, he fits in terms of values, clear and demonstrable playing style that aligns with how I see football and how I think we can be successful here," Knapper said.

"Developing academy players has been done here in the past, and we think we can take that to a new level. We're aligned on that, development of players isn't just restricted to young ones. Every player can get better with an open mind.

"We always want to be better. I certainly wouldn't be doing my job if I wasn't constantly looking at what's out there, but there's quality already in the building. There are some areas we're looking at."

Knapper explained that the search for a new head coach went far and wide, with the depth of information available eventually filtered down to find Hoff Thorup.

"In this day and age, you have access to a lot of information. We had clear criteria, and filtered constantly until we arrived at what we felt was a high-quality group of individuals. And Johannes is a fantastic fit.

"We go into a lot of detail looking at interviews, times Johannes has spoken, the people that are around him. You can take a lot from that and we were getting good signals throughout."

The sporting director also spoke about the change in playing style and structure that Hoff Thorup will bring to the club.

"We're really proud of our club. For any head coach, it's important to have clarity around our vision, structure and stability. I didn't have to sell it too hard.

"We're going to try and make a lot of changes in terms of playing style. We want a structure that'll set us up to achieve what we want to achieve. That can take time, with young players there can be inconsistency but we'll look to develop an ambitious style.

"We understand there'll be bumps in the road but our responsibility is to build a team that people can look at and understand what it is we're trying to do. When the time comes, if patience is needed, that will make it easier for people to afford that to us."
