Capitalising on a misplaced clearance, Hugill coolly slotted the ball to the goalkeeper’s left from inside the D.

The Bluebirds are now 17th in the Sky Bet Championship, four points ahead of Birmingham City, who Onel Hernandez played 180 minutes for last week.

They lost 2-0 at home to Middlesbrough and were held to a 0-0 draw at Swansea City and are nine points clear of the relegation zone in 19th place.

Towards the top of the league, AFC Bournemouth tightened their grip on automatic promotion with four points from six last week, drawing 1-1 at home to Reading and beating Huddersfield Town 3-0 away from home.

Todd Cantwell played the first half of the Reading draw and came on in the 80th minute against Huddersfield, as the Cherries remained second in the Championship, eight points behind Fulham and six ahead of Luton Town.

The Hatters are now level on points with Huddersfield, who are fourth having also lost 2-0 at Millwall last week.

Danel Sinani came on at half time in that game for the Terriers, and played 52 minutes on the weekend against Bournemouth.

Peterborough United rose from the foot of the table to 23rd after they beat Queens Park Rangers 3-1 at Loftus Road, following Wednesday’s 3-2 loss at home to Swansea City, Bali Mumba playing 135 minutes across the two fixtures.

In the weekend’s game, Sam McCallum played the full 90 minutes for QPR, who are eighth in the Championship, two points behind Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United in the play-off places.

Over in Scotland, Hibernian are fifth in the Scottish Premiership after Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Aberdeen, which Rocky Bushiri played the full 90 minutes in for the former.

They’re level on points with Livingston, who Sebastian Soto came on in the 63rd minute for during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away to Heart of Midlothian.

In the Scottish Championship, Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat Raith Rovers 3-2 away from home to remain third and ten points behind leaders Kilmarnock.

Reece McAlear played 90 minutes and assisted the second equalising goal for ICT in that game.

Overseas, Josip Drmić played 90 minutes as HNK Rijeka lost 1-0 at HNK Gorica on Saturday. Rijeka are fourth in the 1. HNL, level on points with Hajduk Split and five behind NK Osijek and Dinamo Zagreb.

Back in the Football League, Josh Martin played an hour of Doncaster Rovers’ 0-0 draw away to Fleetwood Town on Saturday. Rovers are 23rd in Sky Bet League One, four points behind Gillingham, who are one point above the relegation zone.

They lost 1-0 away to Charlton Athletic on Tuesday, Tom Dickson-Peters coming on in the 81st minute of that game.

Carlisle United are six points clear of the relegation zone in Sky Bet League Two despite Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at home to Newport County. Tyrese Omotoye came on in the 54th minute.

In the Vanarama National League, Matthew Dennis came on in the 68th minute of Southend United’s 3-0 loss at home to Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday, before scoring the second goal of Saturday’s 2-0 win at home to Altrincham.

Southend are 12th in the division, five places above Barnet, who Aston Oxborough kept a clean sheet for in Tuesday’s 1-0 win at home to Boreham Wood.
