A brace from Natasha Snelling helped the Canaries to a 2-2 draw at home to London Seaward in an FAWNL Division One South East fixture.
In much the same style to last season's closely-contested draw at The Nest against the Blues, Norwich thought they might have had the winner through Snelling, but it took just a minute for the visitors to get their equaliser and hold onto a draw.
Ten minutes into the match and neither side could break through to force any kind of press.
It was Megan Todd who had the first convincing chance, after Freya Symonds made a drive through the middle and laid the number seven off for a shot on the right-hand side of the box, but her effort was palmed away by Tia Ginn for a Norwich throw.
City continued to hold possession early on but couldn't get too far into the visitors' half.
Seaward created their first real threat through a header from Katherine Long, but she couldn't direct her effort on target.
Todd then took matters into her own hands with an effort from long range inside half an hour, that was just high of the target, followed by a close-range attempt from Symonds that was smothered away for a corner.
Snelling hit the side netting on 28 minutes but at the second time of asking, she bundled a close-range effort into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the Yellows.
Sam Lanza had the chance to equalise twice within a few minutes as her first effort was too weak to beat Sarah Quantrill between the sticks and her second was skied over the crossbar.
The Seaward number 10 then had a third effort roll just wide of the City post following a free kick 30 yards out.
Quantrill was called into action for the first time as she parried a shot from Long away for a corner. The resulting set-piece amounted to a goal-kick and the danger cleared.
Into the second half and Shannon Shaw immediately had the ball in the back of the net but her effort was flagged for offside.
Despite pressing efforts from Norwich, Seaward found an equaliser through Long after 55 minutes.
After a host of changes from Martin Herdman, against the run of play, the Canaries had the chance to go ahead again as Rachel Lawrence had the chance to tap in from close-range but couldn't find the target. The ball then fell to Snelling on the edge of the box who smashed an effort into the top corner for her, and Norwich's, second.
The lead lasted no longer than a minute as Seaward's Megan Burrows took the first chance she had to go for goal and her shot met the top corner of the net.
Snelling was so close to a hat-trick in the final minute of normal time but she was denied superbly by Ginn to keep the score at 2-2.
In the dying seconds of the game, Todd laid substitute Ellie Smith up inside the box but the angle was too awkward and she couldn't find the target.
Norwich City are back in league action on Tuesday, September 5, as they travel to Cambridge City in another league fixture before heading to Carrow Road on Sunday.
