Norwich City Women return to Carrow Road on Friday evening to take on Mulbarton Wanderers Ladies in the Harrod Sport Women’s Cup final (7.45pm KO).
The Norfolk Women and Girls Football League Division One team were drawn as the home side, after beating out Wroxham Women 1-0 in the semi-final.
In a bid to take home the County Cup trophy for the seventh time in their history, Shaun Howes’ side come into the game following a 5-0 win over Dussindale and Hellesdon Rovers Women.
The Canaries finished fourth in the FAWNL Division One South East, so will be looking to round up their 2022/23 campaign with a second victory at Carrow Road and to claim the title of champions of Norfolk.
Martin Francis heads up the team at Mulbarton, and recently led his side to becoming Division One champions for the second season running, after finishing two points clear at the top of the table. The Blues only dropped points on two occasions in draws against Long Stratton and Thetford Town.
City’s opponents have now reached the final for three years running, unable to claim victory against either Wymondham Town (2021/22), and Norwich City (2020/21) in previous seasons.
This season’s finalists last met in the same competition during the 2021/22 campaign, where a nervy quarter-final for the Yellows saw them knocked out by the Belles in a penalty shootout at The Nest.
The previous meeting saw them go head-to-head in the final of the cup at the FDC in Bowthorpe, where City dominated throughout and ran out 7-0 winners. Kathryn Stanley’s hat-trick won her player of the match on the day in 2021.
