Norwich City's four game unbeaten run came to an end at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today as goals from Lucas Moura, Davinson Sánchez and Heung-Min Son gave Spurs a 3-0 victory.
The Canaries had enough of the ball and created enough chances to have got something from the match, but a lack of clinical edge in front of goal along with some lapses in concentration in defence cost the team.
Dean Smith made three changes to the starting line-up as Pierre Lees-Melou, Adam Idah and Andrew Omobamidele with Lukas Rupp, Josh Sargent and Christos Tzolis dropping out.
That meant a change in formation as well, as Norwich played five across the back. They also had three academy graduates in the starting XI, with Idah, Omobamidele and Max Aarons having come through the youth system at the club.
Norwich, who had much more of the possession in the first half, started brightly with Idah crossing for Teemu Pukki to sweep an effort towards goal but Hugo Loris saved the effort comfortably.
Former Canaries' loanee Oliver Skipp then carried the ball from the halfway line to the edge of area before hitting a tame effort that Krul also gathered with little trouble.
However, slightly against the run of play, Spurs opened the scoring through Lucas Moura after 10 minutes. The Brazilian did well to evade challenges from Billy Gilmour and Lees-Melou before, with his back to goal, managing to turn Omobamidele and fire an unstoppable effort into the top corner of the net from 20 yards out.
After that moment it was Spurs who created the more clearcut chances in the first half. First Son Heung-Min hit a shot from outside the box that Harry Kane diverted just the wrong side of the post.
Then Ben Davies was inches away from getting on the end of a Moura free kick to the back post. Then, on the counter, Moura fed Kane who tried to chip Krul from 30 yards but sent his effort the wrong side of the post.
Norwich on the other hand had an effort from Lees-Melou blocked, before Brandon Williams hit a first-time effort over in stoppage time.
The second half began with Kane heading a corner wide. However, on the hour mark Norwich created their best opening of the game as Williams got down the left well and cut a ball back for Pukki. Pukki's shot was miscued but it landed at the feet of Idah, but eight yards out he could only divert effort wide of the mark.
The hosts responded as substitute Matt Doherty found Kane on the edge of the box and he sent an effort towards the bottom corner that Krul did superbly to tip around the post.
However, from the resulting corner the ball dropped in the area kindly for Sánchez and the Colombian international thrashed a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Højbjerg then tested Krul with another effort from inside the box, with 20 minutes to go. At that time Dean Smith made two changes bringing on Josh Sargent and Kieran Dowell off the bench for Idah and Lees-Melou.
However, it was still Tottenham who looked the more dangerous of the two sides as Kane cut in from the left and fired a shot straight at Krul. Then with 15 minutes to go the result was, all but, confirmed when Davies did well to find Son in the area and he shrugged off the challenge of Ben Gibson before finding the bottom corner.
Norwich did have one more good chance to get back into the match but Josh Sargent couldn't get an effort on target when well placed in the box.
