Mo Touré recorded his second hat-trick of the season, as Norwich City turned on the style in the second half to come from behind to win 4-2 at Ashton Gate.
Serving a touchline ban, Philippe Clement made four changes to the side that faced Ipswich Town last weekend.
Liam Gibbs, Oscar Schwartau, Paris Maghoma and Mohamed Touré were all introduced to the starting eleven, with Jack Stacey, Sam Field, Anis Ben Slimane and Mathias Kvistgaarden making way.
However, with just two minutes on the clock the Canaries found themselves behind. Sam Morsy found space on the edge of the area, with the Egyptian on hand to fire past Vladan Kovačević.
The hosts once again threatened on 13 minutes, with the City stopper denying striker Emil Riis from a similar position.
But Norwich responded, gradually gaining control and fashioning chances of their own. Bristol City goalkeeper Radek Vítek was called into action, with both Kenny McLean and Gibbs seeing long range efforts saved.
Back at the other end, only a last ditch block from Harry Darling prevented Scott Twine from doubling the host’s lead.
Norwich’s best chance of the half came just two minutes later through Ali Ahmed, however, having done the hard work bringing it under control in the area, the Canadian was unable to keep his shot down.
Bristol City did have the ball in the net on 34 minutes, only for Riis’ close-range effort from a loose ball in the area to be ruled out for offside.
The Canaries continued to push for an equaliser and were denied in quick succession in the next passage of play. First by Cameron Pring, who managed to get himself in the way of Maghoma’s shot and then by Vítek, who brilliant turned over a deflected header from the resulting corner.
Early in the second half, City were presented a chance when Vítek’s misplaced pass fell to McLean, however City’s captain, from afar, was unable to keep his lobbed shot down.
But minutes later City were level. Touré was alive and alert to pounce on a loose ball after seeing an initial header from McLean’s cross well saved, much to the delight of the 2,000 plus travelling fans housed behind the goal.
With all the momentum, Norwich continued push forward in search of the lead. And on 70 minutes their pressure paid off.
Paris Maghoma slipped a clever through ball in behind the Bristol City defence, releasing Oscar Schwartau. The young Dane galloped into the right channel, before sending a clever pass across the face of goal, leaving Touré with the simplest of finishes into an empty net.
City added to their advantage on 75 minutes, with Touré completing his second hat-trick of the season. Maghoma was again at the heart of play, with his shot from ranged cannoning off the striker and beyond a wrong-footed goalkeeper into the net.
In a pulse-racing eight minutes, Clement’s side added further to their tally, with José Córdoba rising high to head in McLean’s free-kick, the Panamanian’s first of the season.
Substitute Sam Bell pulled one back for the hosts in stoppage time, firing in to the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
