Norwich City Women drew 1-1 with Cambridge United Women on Sunday afternoon in an FAWNL Division One South East thanks to a Megan Todd penalty.

Norwich City welcomed around 5,000 fans to a sweltering Carrow Road in their second FAWNL fixture at the stadium in five months.

The first 10 minutes were calm and collected from both sides, with neither getting a look in at goal.

Natasha Snelling was fouled 30 yards out to win a free-kick but the subsequent set-piece reached United's Lauren Webb, who punched the ball to safety.

City had a convincing press just before 15 minutes as Megan Todd broke free from the U's defence and slotted a ball to Rachel Lawrence on the wing, but she lost control of the ball and United regained possession.

Cambridge had their first attempt soon after following a corner, where Isabella Simmons was able to get her head on the end of the ball in, but her effort went high over the bar.

Sarah Quantrill leapt into action just after 20 minutes, following an effort that rattled the bar and the rebound going goalward.

The following corner then got the game started, as Simmons found herself in a scramble in the box, tapping home from close-range to put the U's ahead after 22 minutes.

Captain Anna Larkins delivered a long ball into the box to lay-up Snelling in the box just past the half-hour mark, but the cross fell just long and Webb collected with ease.

Alice Parker came closest for the Canaries in the first half, after Snelling was fouled on the edge of the box and won the Yellows a free-kick. The Norwich number four stepped up and curled a shot just high of the mark.

Lawrence was inspired by her effort minutes after and broke free from her defender to shoot from outside the box, but fired just high.

In the dying seconds of the half, Snelling was perfectly placed but her shot rattled the crossbar and was cleared.

Into the second half and the Canaries were taking charge. It took all of two minutes for them to change the scoreline as Ellie Smith was fouled in the box to win a penalty.

Todd stepped up and converted from the spot to make it 1-1 at 47 minutes.

Larkins made a strong block in the box to deny Ruth Fox's shot from hitting the target shortly after.

Fox had another go from range after the hour mark but Quantrill was there to comfortably save.

Shaw looked close to Norwich's second when she stole the ball on the edge of the box, but her shot was blocked away by Webb for corner.

Neither sides were able to find the winner and the match ended with the points shared.
