Norwich City fell to a 1-0 defeat against 2.Bundesliga side 1. FC Magdeburg in their first pre-season fixture at Carrow Road.
Johannes Hoff Thorup included summer signing José Córdoba in the matchday squad, as the Panama international began on the bench.
The game's first shot on goal fell to Borja Sainz. The Spaniard latched onto a ball forward from Kenny McLean but couldn't keep his volley down as it went over Dominik Reimann's goal.
Sainz, again, was next to threaten. Jonny Rowe surged forward and found the winger with his pass, with the eventual shot palmed away by the Magdeburg goalkeeper.
But it would be the visitors who would go in front. A misjudged pass from Sainz was capitalised on by Baris Atik, who rounded George Long and finished into an empty net.
A free-kick from Abu-Bekir El-Zein saw Magdeburg threaten Long's goal again, but the set-piece was wide of the post.
The Canaries went in search of an equaliser before the break, and almost found it as Sainz put a teasing ball across goal. A good piece of defending from a Magdeburg defender prevented a tap-in for Rowe.
A fantastic save from Long denied Mohamed El Hankouri the opportunity to double Magdeburg's lead early on in the second half.
Magdeburg came close to adding a second, as Lubambo Musonda cut inside and hit the side-netting with his shot on goal.
Shane Duffy produced a brilliant piece of defending to deny the German side a second goal, blocking Connor Krempicki's effort.
Atik then came close to his and Magdeburg's second, seeing a deflected effort palmed out for a corner by Long.
Elliot Myles and Guilherme Montóia combined well on the left-hand side, with the full-back almost finding Gabe Forsyth with his ball across goal.
The Canaries continue their pre-season preparations with a fixture against TSG Hoffenheim 1899 on Tuesday, July 30.
