Norwich City concluded their pre-season preparations with defeat against Bundesliga side FC St Pauli at Carrow Road.
Jonny Rowe scored his fourth goal of pre-season, but three first-half goals from St Pauli meant it was defeat in their final friendly before beginning the league campaign for the Canaries.
Johannes Hoff Thorup included Ben Chrisene in his starting line-up against the Bundesliga side, following his first taste of action coming off the bench against Hoffenheim in midweek.
The first chance of the game fell to Norwich, as a long ball forward from Kenny McLean found Rowe. His powerful effort was held well by Nikola Vasilj in the St Pauli goal.
Josh Sargent forced a strong hand from Vasilj as Norwich went in search of the opener. Borja Sainz sent the American through on goal, with the eventual shot being palmed out for a corner.
But despite the chances from the Canaries, it was St Pauli who took the lead as Jackson Irvine headed in from a corner.
And the German side doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark as Morgan Guilavogui capitalised on a defensive error to curl beyond Angus Gunn.
There was a third for St Pauli before half-time, as Johannes Eggestein finished beyond Gunn.
Two minutes into the second half, Norwich pulled a goal back. A superb ball forward from Jacob Sørensen found Rowe, and he finished confidently beyond the 'keeper.
Sainz latched on to another ball forward and saw an effort put wide by the St Pauli goalkeeper as the Canaries continued their strong start to the second half.
A flurry of blocked efforts saw St Pauli try to restore their three-goal advantage, before Gunn saved well from a Danel Sinani shot.
Grant Hanley met a Marcelino Núñez free-kick, but the Scotsman's header didn't trouble Ben Voll in goal.
Sinani flashed a late free-kick wide of the post, as St Pauli finished as winners at Carrow Road.
The Canaries begin their Sky Bet Championship campaign next week, away to Oxford United on Saturday, August 10 (KO 12.30pm).
