Match Report | Derby County 2-3 Norwich City

Borja Sainz scored a hat-trick as Norwich City were 3-2 winners away to Derby County at Pride Park in the Sky Bet Championship.

Johannes Hoff Thorup named an unchanged side from the one that were 4-1 winners at home to Watford last weekend, with Anis Ben Slimane returning to the bench after missing out last week through injury.

The hosts had the game's first chance inside the opening two minutes. A nice move saw Nathaniel Mendez-Laing cross into Kayden Jackson, but he couldn't guide his shot on target.

José Córdoba got up highest to win a header from a corner but couldn't keep it down as it went over the crossbar.

The Canaries continued to create chances, with Josh Sargent getting a shot away from a tight angle which was saved by Jacob Widell Zetterström in the Derby goal.

Derby then forced Angus Gunn into a smart stop with his legs, but the linesman had already flagged for offside.

Sainz fired a shot just wide of the post after some good work from Marcelino Núñez.

Sainz, again, was the man behind another Norwich chance. Combining with Ante Crnac, the Spaniard's chipped effort needed Zetterstrom to palm over the bar.

And just before the break, Sainz would find his goal. Sargent's initial effort was blocked, before the American crossed into Sainz who flicked in to score.

Derby would be level on the hour mark as a corner was headed back towards Craig Forsyth who fired beyond Gunn.

Eiran Cashin got up well to meet a cross but the Irishman's header was straight at Gunn.

Norwich would only be level for five minutes. Sainz picked up the ball and surged forward and the Spaniard fired into the far corner to put the Canaries back ahead.

Cashin struck one from a very long way out which struck the crossbar as the Rams searched for an equaliser.

The Spaniard would complete his hat-trick as Norwich countered brilliantly and Sargent put the ball across goal for Sainz to tap in for his third.

Corey Blackett-Taylor curled in a Derby second late on, but the Canaries were able to hold on for all three points.

The Canaries are in midweek Championship action, hosting Leeds United at Carrow Road on Tuesday evening.
