Norwich City had to settle for a point at home to Sunderland, with the Sky Bet Championship fixture ending goalless between the two sides.

Jacob Wright and Oscar Schwartau were given starts by Johannes Hoff Thorup, with young forward Errol Mundle-Smith also named on the bench for the first time, alongside the returning Liam Gibbs.

Norwich registered the game's first chance eight minutes in. Kenny McLean threaded a ball forward to Marcelino Núñez, whose cross was met at the back post by Anis Ben Slimane, but his header hit the woodwork and went wide.

And moments later, the Canaries should've open the scoring. Núñez won the ball high up the pitch and found Borja Sainz, with the Spaniard seeing his effort saved by Anthony Patterson.

Josh Sargent was next to threaten for City, as the US international controlled a cross well and fired at goal. His effort was straight at Patterson, however.

Núñez had a chance towards the end of the first half, but the Chilean's shot was defended well by the away side.

Eliezer Mayenda had Sunderland's first opportunity, just after the hour mark, but sliced his effort as the Canaries managed to clear their lines.

Mayenda was behind the Black Cats' next opportunity, skipping away from a couple of defenders before Angus Gunn denied the effort.

But neither side could find a late goal, as the points were shared in NR1.

The Canaries are back in action on Friday night, travelling away to Turf Moor to face Burnley in another Championship clash (KO 8pm).
