Thanks to first half goals from Josh Sargent and Danel Sinani, Norwich City picked up their first win of the 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship season.

The Canaries dominated for most of the match, netting twice in just ten minutes, but cut it close in the final ten minutes after allowing the visitors to pull one back against the run of play.

Josh Sargent had the first opportunity of the match inside three minutes, after a Max Aarons cross fell to him in the box, but his header flew just high of the bar.

It didn't take long for the American to find the back of the net, however, as a well worked pass from Kieran Dowell fell to Danel Sinani on the edge of the box, who picked out Sargent to header it home for 1-0 after six minutes.

With fifteen minutes played, City looked in control once again as Sinani was set up by Sargent in the box and fired home to make it two.

Danny Ward had the Terriers' first attack of the night just before 25 minutes, after he found space on the edge of the box, but Krul was untested and his shot fired over the bar.

Kenny McLean had to fill in for Jacob Sørensen at left back this evening, but that did not stop the midfielder going for goal following a City corner. His header was just wide of the mark and went behind for a goal kick.

Huddersfield made their second attempt through Jack Rudoni just outside the area after 37 minutes, but Krul was able to make the save to deny the visitors from pulling one back.

Huddersfield then won themselves a free kick on the edge of the area ten minutes from half time, but Yuta Nakayama could only reach the safety of Tim Krul.

City went in at half time with the comfortable two nil lead.

It took all of two minutes for Sargent to make an attack towards goal in the second half, and Tom Lees was shown a red after pulling the last man down.

Max Aarons put in a good shift down right the wing and went for goal after 53 minutes at an angle, which forced Lee Nichols to punch behind for a corner.

Sobra Thomas came close after the hour mark as a mistake from Liam Gibbs allowed him to shoot, but he hit his own chest in doing so and let the ball go out for a goal kick.

A double chance for City came after 73 minutes, as Jordan Hugill's header was punched off the line by Nicholls and Sinani's effort on the rebound was fired just inches too high of the bar.

Onel Hernández then had his effort saved on the line by Nicholls, just before he set up Gabriel Sara to shoot on target, only for him to be denied by the Terriers keeper.

The visitors then pulled one back through substitute Pat Jones ten minutes before time.

City continued to defend deep and had the pressure piled on for the final minutes but managed to keep the visitors at bay until the final whistle for the first Norwich win of the season.
