Norwich City are through to Round Two of the Carabao Cup after beating Birmingham City on penalties.
After a dominant display at the end of the first half, two quick goals from Birmingham in retaliation in the second half meant the game was to be decided by a penalty shootout.
The first five minutes started nervous for both sides, with Norwich's first chance coming from a Jordan Hugill run down the right wing, that allowed him to cross into the box and meet the fingertips of Blues keeper Neil Etheridge.
City found their rhythm in midfield just after ten minutes, with a well worked shot at goal from Danel Sinani, helped by a link up between Gabriel Sara and McCallum. The latter found space for the Luxembourg international, whose shot was just wide of the post.
Sara was then brought back into the action again after 14 minutes, when Hernández was able to slot a ball to the Brazilian on the edge of the box, whose shot went the same place as Sinani's; just wide of the mark.
After 26 minutes, Liam Gibbs kept a free kick short to Kieran Dowell, who looped the ball into the box for Hugill, only for his header to fall narrowly wide.
The visitors had their best chance just before half an hour, from a Jordan Graham corner that fell to Marc Roberts. The captain's attempt was no trouble for Angus Gunn, as the ball went high and wide.
The Canaries were then able to win themselves a corner at the other end, allowing Danel Sinani to go for goal and aim on target, but Etheridge was there to collect with a dive to the ground.
Birmingham's Jordan James found time to shoot from distance against the run of play, but was once again unable to test Gunn, when his shot went high and wide.
With two minutes to go, McCallum went down in the box unprovoked and was subsequently forced off the pitch with a foot injury. Max Aarons was his replacement.
City then found a breakthrough twice in injury time, thanks to goals from Sinani and Sørensen.
Sinani's header fell at the perfect angle from a Hugill tap in the box and Sørensen's goal was a looping ball from 30 yards out that cemented Etheridge to the ground, who was only able to watch the ball float into the back of his net.
Into the second half, Jonathan Leko of Birmingham City was first to go for goal, after he side-stepped Grant Hanley, only for his resulting shot to be fired into the stands.
A breakthrough was made for Birmingham after 55 minutes, when Kieran Dowell lost possession at the halfway line, allowing the visitors to break and Leko to beat Gunn in goal and find the back of the net at his second attempt this half.
At the hour mark, the Canaries had two opportunities in the space of a few seconds as Etheridge came off his line, allowing Sinani to go for goal, hit the underside of the cross bar and Liam Gibb's resulting rebound was then fired into the crowd.
With just over ten minutes remaining, Birmingham brought the score level through a Jonathan Tomkinson own goal, who was unable to clear from a corner.
As the clock hit injury time, Josh Sargent was able to win a corner for the Yellows and Tomkinson's header in the box was unable to hit the target.
Just before full time, Aaron Ramsey was substituted on for Kieran Dowell.
At 90 minutes, it remained 2-2 and the game was decided by penalties.
Gibbs, Sinani, Núñez and Sargent were all able to convert and help the Canaries win 4-3, booking themselves a place in the next round of the cup.
