Brentford striker Ivan Toney netted a hat-trick, including two from the penalty spot, as Norwich City were beaten 3-1 at home by Brentford.
Head coach Dean Smith made two changes from the side that had lost to Southampton last time out. Sam Byram and Tim Krul came into the starting line-up for Angus Gunn and Max Aarons.
The Canaries started the match well, with Kenny McLean bringing the ball down well and moving it on to Billy Gilmour, who then slid a pass into Milot Rashica. The Kosovan brought a good save out of David Raya before Gilmour fired the subsequent follow up over the bar.
Josh Sargent then flicked a ball on for Teemu Pukki to fire an effort towards the near post, but Raya was equal to that shot as well. Sargent then created a sight of goal for himself with a late run into the area, but his first-time shot was over the crossbar.
The chances continued as Brandon Williams got down the left well before playing a pass into Gilmour, but his shot lacked the pace to trouble Raya.
However, there was a warning sign for Brentford when the ball dropped to Sergi Canós on the edge of the box and his crisply-struck shot brought the best save of the match out of the returning Krul. Then, from the resulting corner, Toney was allowed to peel off his marker and side foot home at the back post to give the Bees the lead on the half hour.
After that Norwich struggled to create too many clearcut openings in the first half but Kenny McLean did have a shot from just inside the box which was well blocked
The second half started with a penalty appeal for Brandon Williams, turned down by referee Anthony Taylor, before Toney sent Mbuemo into the area only for his strike partner to be denied a shot on goal by a sliding blocked from Grant Hanley.\

However, from the resulting corner Ben Gibson, with the help of VAR, was adjudged to have caught Pontus Jansson as he went to stoop to head the ball. Toney stepped up to take the spot kick and scored. \

Moments later Kenny McLean went down in the area but, following a VAR check nothing was given and to add insult to injury two minutes later Gibson caught Toney in the box and Taylor pointed to the spot to give the visitors another chance from 12 yards. Toney picked the same spot and found the bottom corner, despite Krul guessing the direction of the penalty.
Sam Byram went close to pulling a goal back on 64 minutes when he headed Gilmour's cross towards goal but Raya got his fingertips to the effort to tip it over his crossbar.
Rashica then thought he had pulled a goal back on 66 minutes when a throw into the box was half cleared and he hit a first time effort into the bottom corner, but the goal was ruled out for offside with the help of VAR.
Brentford had a goal of their own ruled out though on 75 minutes when Mbuemo fired home at the second attempt from close range. The goal being chalked off by VAR for a foul in the build up.
Norwich did pull a goal back in the first minute of stoppage time as substitute Jon Rowe cut the ball back for Pukki to volley home. Rowe and Sargent then had further chances but couldn't take them to spark a comeback.
