Norwich City continued an unbeaten run in Saturday's 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion at Carrow Road in the Sky Bet Championship, thanks to an equaliser from Sam Byram.
The left-back claimed the goal as his first for the club, after Teemu Pukki's effort clipped Byram and diverted into the back of the net.
Dean Smith made one change to the starting team that took to the field against Bristol City three days earlier. There was a first league start for summer signing Gabriel Sara, with Todd Cantwell dropping to the bench.
Prior to kick off, both teams paid tribute to the late Roger Munby, the former Norwich City chairman, whose sad passing had been announced earlier that morning.
The visitors made a positive start and broke the deadlock with an early opener. A deep free kick from John Swift was met at the back by an unmarked DaraO’Shea, who headed home from six yards out.
The visits then had a penalty appeal waved away, as Swift stumbled under a challenge from Norwich skipper Grant Hanley.
The Canaries’ first attempt on goal came on 26 minutes. Marcelino Núñez first sent a shot dipping over the crossbar following a half-cleared Norwich corner kick, before the Chilean then fizzed another effort wide moments later.
As half time approached, Norwich began to slowly turn the screw, enjoying prolonged periods of possession.
The best Norwich chance of the half came just prior to the interval. Sam Byram clipped a ball into the left channel, with Sara crashing a first-time shot off the crossbar from an acute angle.
The second half assumed a similar pattern to that of the first, with the visitors on top immediately after the restart.
Erik Peters crossed from the left for Jayson Molumby, who fired marginally wide of Tim Krul’s far post, before Brandon Thomas-Asante found his way into the Norwich area from the left, before shooting across goal and wide.
Smith responded with the introduction of Onel Hernández, with the Cuban immediately involved in goal-mouth action.
A series of Norwich corners culminated in Hernández pulling the ball back from the byline to the edge of the area. Waiting was Pukki, who wrapped his left boot around the ball, with his goal-bound shot deflecting into the net via Byram.
Against the run of play, the goal immediately lifted the home crowd, and put Norwich suddenly in the ascendency.
West Brom had a final attempt on goal on the cusp of full time from a corner but the ball was intercepted by the Norwich defence, ending the game on a draw.
