Match Report | Preston North End 2-2 Norwich City

Norwich City fought back from 2-0 down to collect a point on the road against Preston North End on Tuesday evening.

After picking up a knock during Saturday's draw with Stoke, Marcelino Núñez was left out of the starting 11 against Preston North End, Emiliano Marcondes taking his place for his full debut.

City gifted Preston an early lead when George Long took down Emil Riis in the penalty box, allowing Sam Greenwood to step up and convert from a spot-kick.

Preston had their second through Duane Holmes just five minutes later, as the American midfielder found space down the right and fired into the back of the net with some conviction.

Johannes Hoff Thorup's side continued to hold most of the possession but were unable to find any real threat going forward past Preston's well organised defence.

A convincing chance for the Canaries came five minutes from the half-time whistle, when Borja Sainz curled a shot towards Freddie Woodman's net but could only brush the woodwork.

Moments later in the final minute of injury time, the Spaniard was rewarded for his efforts and latched onto a cross into the box, tapping into the back of the net to make it 2-1.

City restarted the match lively, Kenny McLean getting a neat cross over to Josh Sargent in the box, but the forward couldn't tap home to find the equaliser.

The hosts followed this up with a run from Riis who struck a shot goalward, missing the target by inches.

An equaliser finally came Norwich's way with half an hour to play, after Shane Duffy burst through the middle, and played in Sargent who returned the ball for Duffy to strike home from inside the six-yard box.

The game was played out with chances for both sides but neither were able to find a winner.

Norwich are next in action on Sunday afternoon at Carrow Road against Middlesbrough.
