Norwich City have been relegated from the Premier League following Saturday's 2-0 defeat away to Aston Villa.
Along with Burnley's 2-1 win at Watford, the defeat means the Canaries are unable to earn enough points to stay in the topflight this season.
Dean Smith initially made two changes to the side that lost 3-0 to Newcastle United last weekend, Max Aarons and Brandon Williams coming in for Christoph Zimmermann and Dimitris Giannoulis respectively, Sam Byram moving across to centre-back.
Josh Sargent was back on the bench, and Billy Gilmour started ahead of Kenny McLean, who was injured during the warm up.
Lucas Digne had a corner cushioned over the bar by Ollie Watkins early on, before a Max Aarons-led counter-attack gave Pierre Lees-Melou time and space to get City's first shot away, which he poked wide.
Digne found his opposite full-back with another cross, Matty Cash heading straight at Tim Krul, who was making his 150th appearance for the Canaries.
The Dutchman made a great save to deny Leon Bailey in the 19th minute, tipping his long-range effort onto the crossbar.
Similarly, Emi Martínez stretched up to his right to push a promising strike from Milot Rashica over the bar at the other end.
Brandon Williams was next to go for goal, but his shot was too soft to trouble Martínez, before the home side took the lead following the introduction of Danny Ings.
On for Bailey, Ings played a long ball forward to Watkins. Williams slipped and Watkins smashed the ball into the roof of the net courtesy of a Byram deflection.
Jacob Ramsey headed over the bar from another Digne delivery at the end of the first half.
Villa came close to doubling their lead early in the second half. Ings played a one-two with Watkins and had a shot blocked by Byram, before heading the following corner onto the post.
Philippe Coutinho then find Watkins, who shot into the side netting.
Rashica found Teemu Pukki in space inside the 18-yard box in the 57th minute. He pulled it back for Pierre Lees-Melou, who turned onto his left foot and provided and easy catch for Martínez.
Lees-Melou was then replaced by Sargent, who could only play a handful of minutes before coming off for Lukas Rupp.
Kieran Dowell looked to get a cross in with just under 20 minutes remaining, and the ball deflected towards the near post, where Martínez was able to catch.
The ball then came out to Aarons on the edge of the area, who shot wide with the outside of his right foot before Jonathan Rowe replaced Rashica on his 19th birthday.
At the other end, Ings crossed for Watkins, who shot over the bar first-time on his left foot.
Buendía struck wide in stoppage time, before Ings made it 2-0 with a shot into the bottom right corner.
