Josh Sargent continued his good form with a tap-in from a great Aaron Ramsey cross as Norwich City won 1-0 at Sunderland on Saturday.
The Canaries fought tooth and nail to keep the ball out of their own net as well, Andrew Omobamidele and Grant Hanley making block after block.
Sunderland started brightly but Alex Pritchard saw his cross headed wide by Ellis Simms early on, before Lynden Gooch's delivery for Ross Stewart to head was caught comfortably by Tim Krul.
City's first chance came in the 14th minute, Kieran Dowell playing a great ball down the left for Onel Hernández to run onto. He crossed for Josh Sargent, whose first-time left-footed strike was saved at the near post by Anthony Patterson.
Liam Gibbs was then forced off the pitch after blocking a cross and he was replaced by Sam Byram, with Kenny McLean moving from left-back into midfield.
Sargent almost gave us the lead just beyond the half-hour mark, playing a neat one-two with Kieran Dowell and shooting just wide of the post from close range.
Stewart capitalised on a mistake by Max Aarons to get a shot away with half-time approaching, but Krul was able to concede a corner.
The home side began to attack in waves, but crucial blocks and clearances from Omobamidele and Hanley denied Corry Evans.
Tim Robinson blew the whistle for half-time at 0-0.
Marcelino Núñez struck a powerful shot straight at Patterson shortly after the start of the second half before bending another effort just wide from distance.
Sunderland hit the crossbar and the rebound fell to Pritchard, but his attempt was blocked bravely on the line by Hanley.
Smith then made a trio of attacking changes, Ramsey, Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki coming on for Hernández, Danel Sinani and Kieran Dowell.
Ramsey looked lively straight away, working the ball to the edge of the area and finding Sargent, who shot over the bar.
Then he sent Núñez forward on the counter after controlling a long pass forward from Tim Krul, but the Chilean had his shot blocked.
In the 76th minute, the ball was worked out wide to Ramsey on the left, and his cross was perfect for Sargent to tap in and give Norwich the lead.
Four minutes were added on and Sunderland had a free-kick land on the roof of the net, but City held on for all three points.
