Norwich City recorded a 2-1 win away to Rotherham United in the SkyBet Championship, thanks to goals from Kenny McLean and Aaron Ramsey.
McLean put the Canaries in front in the first half, heading home after Teemu Pukki's deflected effort.
Ollie Rathbone equalised for the hosts, before Ramsey poked home almost immediately to restore the lead.
The headline team news saw Josh Sargent return to the starting line-up, as Dean Smith made three changes following the midweek 0-0 draw against QPR.
USA international Sargent, who was back fit again following a calf strain, partnered Teemu Pukki upfront, whilst McLean returned to a midfield starting berth.
City’s only other change saw Max Aarons in at right-back in place of the injured Sam Byram.
After a lengthy spell on the sidelines there was also a place on the bench for Greek left-back Dimitris Giannoulis.
The game’s first clear opening fell the way of the home side.
On seven minutes Brooke Norton-Cuffy received the ball on the left touchline following a quick free kick. His deep, swirling cross was met at the back post by Peter Kioso, who could only divert the ball against the base of the near post.
Those in yellow and green felt hard done by on ten minutes.
Ramsey lifted a clever ball over the Rotherham rearguard onto which Sargent raced. But, as he was about to pull the trigger when clear in on goal, City’s number 24 stumbled under pressure from a scrambling Richard Wood. The referee waved away a vocal Norwich appeal.
Following immediately from that moment Rotherham broke up the other end, with Rathbone cutting in from the left flank before curling wide of Angus Gunn’s far post.
City settled and began to weave some pretty patterns in the midfield areas and were rewarded with the opening goal of the game on 16 minutes.
Gabriel Sara escaped down the right channel, forcing his way into the Rotherham area. A loose ball was then fired goalwards by Pukki, with a deflection looping the ball to an unmarked McLean who nodded home at the back post.
From that point forward Norwich controlled much of what remained of the first half.
Sargent rose high at a corner to glance Sara’s out-swinging delivery marginally wide before Sam McCallum fizzed a low shot following a Pukki cross.
The second half started in a hectic manner.
Rotherham drew level immediately after the restart. Sara’s square pass was cut out by Rathbone, who skipped forward towards the edge of an exposed City penalty area before firing low and into the bottom corner.
But Norwich’s response was immediate.
Sargent’s deflected shot from range was parried by stopper Viktor Johansson, with the rebounds eventually squirming into the path of the alert Ramsey who converted from close range.
On the hour City came close to extending their lead when Sargent was released in the left channel by Sara following some neat interplay, only to be denied by a smart save.
McLean then nodded Sara’s corner wide, as Norwich continued control the game in large parts.
Rotherham did threaten on occasions, but their only goal bound attempt of note was superbly blocked by a flying Aarons.
In the end City comfortably saw the game out and headed back to Norfolk with all three points.
