Norwich City have announced that midfielder Kenny McLean has signed a new contract with the club until 2025, with the option of a further year.

Norwich City have announced that midfielder Kenny McLean has signed a new contract with the club until 2025, with the option of a further year.

The Scotland international signed for City in January 2018 but completed that season on loan at Aberdeen.

Since then, he has made himself a regular at Carrow Road with 158 appearances and 11 goals to his name as well as two Sky Bet Championship titles.

So far this season, McLean has played 20 times in all competitions for the Yellows.

At the announcement of his new deal, the midfielder said: "It's something I'm really happy to get done. I’m really happy and settled at this football club and have made many happy memories here.

"On the pitch, highlights have been the two promotions. The changing room is excellent which makes it easier, you're coming into work every day with your mates.

"It's a great club to be at, they look after you off the field in a lot of ways. It's a properly family club.

“We’ve now got a really important period coming up. We know we’ve got to improve on the pitch, but we’re raring to go and can’t wait to get back into the season again.”

Sporting director Stuart Webber said: “Kenny has been outstanding for us since he walked through the door.

“As a club we invest in young talents to develop, but it’s important we have a core of senior professionals to help guide our younger players - Kenny does that and more.

“This contract is reward for a player who has stuck with us through ups and downs and is an integral part of our plans going forward.

“Kenny has also continued to develop in his leadership. He will become an even better role model for our younger players, not only with his performance but attitudes and behaviours around the Lotus Training Centre and on matchdays.”

Head coach Dean Smith commented: “We’re really pleased that Kenny has committed his future to the football club. He’s a very valuable member of our squad, dressing room and leadership group.

“His experience and knowledge of the game is second to none. He’s really appreciated and valued by all of the coaching staff and dressing room, so we’re delighted to have sorted the contract and have him with us for the long term.”
