Milot Rashica scored his first goal in Norwich City colours to send the Canaries into the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup with a victory over Charlton Athletic.
The Addicks, playing two levels below the Canaries in Sky Bet League One, caused problems for Norwich City in the first half. However, in the closing stages, aided by a triple substitution at half-time Norwich got on top of the match as Teemu Pukki squared the ball for Milot Rashica to score his first goal for the club.
Dean Smith made five changes to the starting line-up that faced Crystal Palace last time out.
In came Tim Krul, Grant Hanley, Ozan Kabak, Kieran Dowell and Josh Sargent, while there was also a place on the bench for 19-year-old Liam Gibbs as he was included in the matchday squad for the first time.
Both teams started the game with plenty of intent as challenges flew in during the opening 10 minutes before Pierre Lees-Melou then got the first sight of goal as he hit an effort from 25 yards out that was well blocked by George Dobson.
Former Canary Diallang Jaiyesimi then won the ball back well off Dimitris Giannoulis - a feature of Charlton's first half play as they pressed Norwich City defenders well - but his cross into the area was blocked by Ozan Kabak and claimed by Tim Krul.
Then Elliot Lee went close to opening the scoring for the hosts when Charlton turned over possession quickly and worked the ball to the edge of the area where the Luton Town loanee curled an effort just past the upright.
The Addicks grew in confidence from that moment as Krul was forced to race out of his area and head clear as Jonathan Leko raced towards goal. Then on 36 minutes Alex Gilbey hit an effort from 25 yards that Krul unconventially shoveled wide of his goal.
Norwich replied as Jacob Sørensen squared the ball for Kenny McLean to fire over the crossbar from range, but Charlton then had the ball in the back of the net in the closing minutes of the half through 18-year-old Mason Burstow only for the goal to be correctly ruled out for a foul on Krul who dropped the ball from a cross in having been jumped into by Jason Pearce.
Smith made three changes at the break brining on Teemu Pukki, Brandon Williams and Milot Rashica for Giannoulis, Tzolis and Dowell.
However, it was Charlton who were to go close first again in the second half as Dobson fizzed a pass into the box for Lee to turn and fire towards goal, forcing Krul to block his effort with his legs.
Then both Burstow and Gilbey sent efforts at goal as the home side continued to look the more likley to team to break the deadlock.
However, then two of the substitutes combined, Rashica and Pukki, to tee up McLean in the box but his shot lacked power and was comfortably saved.
Lees-Melou then stole possession back well in the Charlton half to set up a three on two situation but his pass into McLean got caught under the feet of the Scottish international and the home side cleared.
And as the match approached the hour mark Pukki had a shot inside the box, from a corner, that was well blocked and Sargent dragged a shot wide as the visitors began to grow into the second half proceedings.
There were claims for a penalty as Pukki nutmegged Pearce only to be blocked from getting past the defender but referee Josh Smith turned down the appeals.
Charlton then made a triple change bringing on Chris Gunter, Corey Blackett-Taylor and Josh Davison. Max Aarons also came on for the Canaries, replacing Sam Byram.
Then as both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages McLean fed a ball down the channel for Pukki to race onto and he had the pace to beat Pearce and then the presence of mind to square a pass to Rashica for the Kosovan international to score his first goal for the Canaries by side footing home from the edge of the six yard box with 11 minutes to go.
Norwich had two further chances to add to the scoreline and make the game safe. First Lees-Melou brought a fingertip save from Stephen Henderson, with five minutes to go, and then Max Aarons fired as shot from an angle, in stoppage time, that the goalkeeper blocked.
There was a late scare as Ben Purrington rattled the Norwich crossbar but, in the end, Rashica's goal was enough to secure the victory and put the Canaries into the hat for the fourth round draw.
