Norwich City Under-12s took part in a Christmas Truce tournament with 11 other Premier League teams in a project that aimed to promote friendship and teach children about the sacrifices soldiers made fighting in World War One.
It was a shared educational and football experience which paid tribute to the Christmas Day Truce shared by German and Allied soldiers on the battlefields in 1914 when a game of football was played between the opposing sides.
The under-12 and under-13 academy teams qualified for the Truce Tournament, held at St George’s Park in December, through an educational challenge, having done projects on the First World War and how players from their clubs and local areas were affected.
Speaking about the project, 11-year-old Norwich City player Lynden, said: "We took in the experience of how the Germans, how they came into No Man's Land and they exchanged gifts with the English. After one of the tournaments we actually gave gifts as a sign of the friendship between us.
“It is also about the football, but it is a way of uniting the education and it is a brilliant crossover of the two things.
“The main message to come from this is that we are all people and what we believe in shouldn’t put us apart. No matter race, gender, whatever it is, we are all people, and we are all equal.”
