Norwich City Under-23s fell to a 4-3 defeat to Burnley in Premier League 2 Division 2 on Saturday in a topsy-turvy encounter.
Burnley bossed the opening half an hour and led by two thanks to goals from Michael Mellon and Joe McGlynn.
However, Alan Neilson's side rallied to get back into the match on the stroke of half-time when Tom Dickson-Peters pulled a goal back.
Shae Hutchinson then equalised for the Canaries shortly after half-time with a finish from distance but Burnley restored their two-goal advantage thanks to goals from Jacob Bedeau and Ne-Jai Tucker.
Dickson-Peters netted his second of the game with five minutes to play but it was too little too late.
Burnley stormed into a two goal lead inside 15 minutes. The first came on 8 minutes when Mellon nodded home a cross from McGlynn.
McGlynn then went from provider to finisher on 13 minutes when he finished from a Ben Woods cross.
City were firmly on the back foot and Burnley went for the jugular, almost adding a third on 24 when Tucker's effort was well-saved by Joe Rose in the City goal.
The Canaries eventually found their footing in the game as it passed the half-hour mark and the man in form Tom Dickson-Peters went close to adding to his tally of eight goals but was denied by Burnley stopper Sam Waller.
However, Dickson-Peters wasn't to be denied for a second time. On the stroke of half-time, City's top scorer buried the ball past Waller to give City a lifeline heading into the break.
City seized on that momentum and equalised shortly after the restart when Hutchinson fired home from distance for his first goal of the season.
However, Burnley wrestled back the initiative on 52 minutes when he nodded home from a Tucker delivery.
Tucker slammed home Burnley's fourth on 70 minutes and looked to have put the result beyond doubt, but Dickson-Peters netted his second with five minutes to play to set up a grandstand finish.
However, it was too little too late as the young Canaries fell to defeat on their travels.
Next up for City's Under-23s is the visit of Birmingham City to The Walks on Friday, October 22 (7pm KO). Ticket details will be confirmed in due course.
