Norwich City Women comfortably beat Kent Football United 3-0 and made it two wins in two at The Nest, in the FA National Women’s League Division One South East fixture.
In Sunday’s bottom of the table clash, City went into the game off the back of an important win last week and hoped to start a winning streak.
The Yellows started the game with confidence and never lost it, as they controlled the game from start to finish.
Freya Fuller had the first opportunity to get on the score sheet after three minutes, as she found space in the box and managed a shot on target, but Kent keeper Charlotte Greenwood was able to make a block and City had to settle for a corner.
The Canaries then made their breakthrough five minutes later, as they put the Kent back line under pressure and forced them to lose possession deep in their own half and Megan Todd was able to capitalise, hitting the back of the net from just inside the box.
The Yellow shirts continued to charge forward, holding possession in the midfield and preventing United from getting the ball out of their own half.
City keeper Bryony Williams only had to jump into action once in the first half, as at the 22-minute mark Kent were awarded a free kick and she had to punch away the resulting header that was going on target.
At 35 minutes, Norwich made things worse for Kent as Stanley netted City’s second, after a link-up with Symonds on the edge of the box.
City went in at half-time with a two-goal lead, feeling positive and confident after an impressive performance.
The second half was no different to the first, with City controlling the game and not allowing their opponents to get a look in.
City did have the ball in the back of the net at 55 minutes after a Anna Larkins corner, but a foul was given as a Blue shirt went down in the box.
City finally got their third at 77 minutes and an unfortunate own goal made it three, as Kent captain Lucy Cockerill knocked a powerful Megan Todd cross into the back of her own net.
Norwich head coach Shaun Howes then made several substitutions to help hold on to a clean sheet, with Ellie Smith making a return after being out of action for some time, and Community Sports Foundation graduate Ella Gambell getting her first minutes on the pitch at home.
The game was all but wrapped up by the closing stages but in the 88th minute Kent had their best chance of the day, finding space on the edge of the box and going for goal, only to miss the target by inches.
City’s next fixture sees them take on Stevenage at home on Sunday, 20 February.
