Norwich defeated 5-0 at Manchester City

Norwich City were beaten 5-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon thanks to a Tim Krul own goal and strikes from Jack Grealish, Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez.

Andrew Omobamidele returned to the bench, replacing Christoph Zimmermann in Daniel Farke's only change from the squad that lost to Liverpool last Saturday.

After Krul punched clear a right-wing cross from Gabriel Jesus, the home side took the lead early on. Rodri found Jesus on the right again, and this time his ball in was aimed at Ferran Torres.

Grant Hanley attempted to clear the danger, but the ball hit Krul and bounced across the line for 1-0 in the seventh minute.

Pep Guardiola's side believed they had doubled their lead in the 15th minute, Jesus finding Torres to race through on goal and pick out the bottom right corner.

However, after a VAR check for a foul on Milot Rashica during the build-up, referee Graham Scott checked the VAR monitor and ruled the goal out.

Manchester City continued to look dangerous down the right, increasing their lead in the 22nd minute via the cross of Jesus and finish of Grealish.

Norwich produced some tidy passages of play during the first half but never troubled Ederson and went into the half-time break 2-0 down.

Farke made two changes at half-time, Bali Mumba coming on for Dimitris Giannoulis and Kenny McLean replacing Lukas Rupp.

Rodri fired over the bar from the edge of the area for Manchester City's first effort of the second half.

Max Aarons spotted a good run of Rashica in the 54th minute and delivered an accurate pass over the top, but Ederson raced off of his line to head clear.

At the other end, Manchester City continued to apply the pressure, Jesus cutting inside and dragging a shot just wide of Krul's near post after Kyle Walker's strike rebounded kindly into his path.

There was an element of good fortune about Manchester City's third goal, Ilkay Gundogan's corner bouncing around inside the 18-yard box before Laporte buried the ball past Krul.

The Canaries almost responded instantly, Aarons' cross hitting Gundogan and going just past the post for a corner kick.

Manchester City then scored an archetypal goal, Walker threading a precise through ball forward to Jesus, who was able to put it on a plate for Sterling with his first touch.

The England forward, on as a second-half substitute, made no mistake to put the hosts 4-0 up.

In the 77th minute, Josh Sargent made his second appearance for Norwich, coming on to replace Teemu Pukki.

Rashica immediately had a chance to charge forward down the left wing before coming inside and curling high and wide.

With six minutes remaining, Ruben Dias picked out Mahrez with a ball over the top. The latter took it down in time and space before cushioning it in off the post for 5-0.
