Núñez goal gifts Canaries win in Darmstadt

Marcelino Núñez's goal was the difference between the sides as Norwich City took on SV Darmstadt in a pre-season friendly.

His first-half effort, turned in after some strong play down the right from Jack Stacey, was enough for David Wagner's win to see off their hosts, who featured Christoph Zimmermann in their lineup.

The first chance had fallen to the hosts with Matthias Bader getting forward, but he could only fire over Tim Krul's crossbar.

It was almost immediately followed by the Canaries' opener - courtesy of Núñez after Stacey had done the hard yards in the build-up.

The right-back nutmegged Matej Maglica before pulling the ball back across goal where it found its way to the Chilean to force it home.

Chances were few and far between throughout the first half. Dimi Giannoulis did well to prevent Tobias Kempe from getting a clean head on the ball in a dangerous position late in the half.

For Norwich, Stacey and Jonathan Rowe looked a threat coming in from the right.

The second half started frantically with both sides making multiple changes.

Norwich almost doubled their advantage through the newly-introduced Ashley Barnes but Marcel Schuhen pulled off an excellent save with his feet.

Krul matched it to turn away Fabian Schnellhardt's free-kick before the resulting cross back in ended up in the Norwich goal. However, it was deemed to have been handled over the line and was disallowed.

Darmstadt had a couple of opportunities to score in the final 15 minutes with Krul palming the ball away from danger in the first instance, before Jonathan Tomkinson had to get his body in the way of a vicious strike from the edge of the box.

The Canaries would hold out however, claiming a good win against Bundesliga opposition.
